As the age of your best friend increases you will need to start looking for suitable and within budget orthopedic dog beds.

Our mature K9 friends suffers more and more from bone fractures and arthritis as a result of being not being active enough or active at all, pollution and a poor diet. Although very few dog owners wants to recognise it, the ever persistent jumping up and down from the bed or couch are a great contributor to our aging friends' discomfort.

The most common signs of orhtopedic problems and discomfort in dogs are noticed by behaviour such as slower and or sluggish movement, reluctance to move around or not moving at all.

The cold open floor is never a good place for your dog to sleep, irrespective of his age. But letting your aged dog sleeping on the floor is the worst situation for his condition. The ideal is to find a dog bed that will secure even weight distribution with a comfortable surface. Bumpy dog beds feeling as if it is full of potholes are not good and will only contribute to more discomfort and pain.

Orthopedic dog beds are available in many shapes and forms and some can be very correspondingly to your own furniture with the exception that your dog will be able to move up and down with much more ease as it is closer to the ground. Commonly orthopedic dog beds' structure consists of a square box frame and is equipped with a memory foam mattress. It is important to take features such as stain resistance and easy cleaning into account before buying an orhtopedic dog bed.

Suitable orthopedic dogs will provide comfort and provide some relieve from the pain suffered. Ideal for this qualities are double-sided ortho foam complimented with a furry comfortable material cover. Moreover, you would want a bed that trap and repel odours and are protected against allergens, viruses, dust mites, bacteria, insects and parasites. Good orhtopedic dog beds are not too heavy and can be moved with ease due to the light construction materials used.

A three inch egg crate can be used in cases where no other alternatives are possible, however one needs to note that it is not the ideal solution and the relieve and comfort provided are very limited. An orthopedic dog bed filled with gel or comprises of memory foam provides the best comfort and relieve for your dog's orthopedic needs.

A gel-filled bed is regarded to be the ultimate solution with the most advantages, comfort and support to your dog. Memory foam is a more affordable and almost as good alternative to gel filled orthopedic dog beds. Memory foam beds conforms to the shape of your dog's body and therefore provides excellent even weight distribution to the animal.

Question by Dog Log: Ortho seven garden dust used to be used on dogs with fleas?
and or their bedding is it still the same product. It used to say on the label you could do that, but its now no longer said if its safe

Best answer:

Answer by T
All Animals and Fleas
Use castile soap. Mix castile soap with water and using a flea comb, comb through your pet's hair. Periodically dip the comb in the water to remove the built up hair, fleas, and flea dirt. This can help to provide some immediate relief.
Sprinkle rosemary and/or eucalyptus leaves in your pet's bedding.
Wash the bedding often.
Rub Brewer's Yeast onto their fur and skin. It will fight the fleas externally by its presence and internally, when they lick some of it off.
Use citrus repellent. It works for fleas, anywhere, but be sure to concentrate behind the ears, around the head (watch out for the eyes), the base of the tail (be careful there, too), and their 'pits'.
Make a 'flea collar'. Take the pet's collar or neckerchief and put on drops of eucalyptus oil, tea tree oil, citronella, lavender, or geranium. This will need to be done weekly.[6]

The House and Garden
Find fleas crossing your threshold.Sprinkle borax soap around the area to keep them out of the house.

Your animals love your furniture. So do the fleas.Sprinkle borax onto the carpet, on the furniture, and in your furniture. Use an old seasoning shaker, labeled to keep it away from the food preparation area.
Add a bit of salt to your vacuuming.Sprinkle it on the floor and vacuum the area. The salt and borax will kill any fleas that find their way into your vacuum cleaner bag,
Shake a layer of salt onto your furniture and floor and leave it overnight. Vacuum in the morning, and throw out the bag.
Spray flea control nematodes.[7] These beneficial microbes work by killing them while in the developing stage, where they live in the soil. This disturbs their life cycle, lessening their numbers.

Just as you dream of enjoying a warm, relaxing slumber over a very comfortable bed, your beloved dog also wants the same. You see, dogs are very much like us. They get angry, they feel alone, they catch colds, live, die, and who knows, even fall in love?

Consider this common fact: Just like humans, dogs get old, too. With the aging process comes the dreaded arthritis and with it, some aching joints, especially during the cold weather. There are also times when your dog, old or otherwise, will get injuries doing the old tricks you taught him or simply when it's playing with you in the lawn on a Sunday morning. You can give your dog some help by easing their aching limbs with a relaxing massage. But, if you're not a chiropractor, you can simply settle the problem by providing your dog with heated and orthopedic bed.

Among the most common types of orthopedic dog beds in the market are the electrical, microwavable, or reflective. These beds can either be made of baffled fiberfill, foam, or box spring and come in a wide array of features and designs.

The task of choosing the perfect orthopedic or heated bed for your trusted friend is never easy, though. Sure, there is a whole lot of dog bed options for you to choose from but not all of them gives the needed utmost comfort they need. It is, therefore, advised that you do some research on them before you purchase one. But if you don't have the time to do such a task, this article will do it for you. Remember the following when deciding which orthopedic or heated dog bed you will buy:

1. It should provide an ample amount of heat.

Cushioning joints and maintaining comfort, especially for old dogs, is of utmost importance. An orthopedic bed should, therefore, be able to provide comfort to senior dogs through proper heat. The material should be warm enough to help soothe dog muscles. A 12 to 15 degrees above ambient air temperature is ideal. Look for those that have dual thermostats. The device help regulate heater temperature that is located within the orthopedic foam. Your dogs do need extra warmth, especially on cold, winter months, when arthritis takes its toll on your beloved dog.

2. It should promote comfort.

The materials of which the orthopedic or heated bed was made will largely determine this standard. Go see if the bed has a thick, orthopedic foam. This feature cushions dog joints and may also reduce some pressure points. Some beds do have masseur-like feature by gently massaging your dog's limbs, joints, and muscles as they soundly take their afternoon or night slumber.

3. It should be durable and easy to clean.

Take into great consideration the durability of the bed. Examine the types of materials used by the bed's manufacturer. Examine the types of materials used by the bed's manufacturer. See to it that the bed has a thick foam, heavy, nylon zipper, and can support the weight and size of your dog. Choose also the type with an easily removable heater, so you won't have to exert so much effort and time cleaning it. Look also for the type with removable fleece cover so it can be easily washed.

Once you have completed checking out your prospect for the perfect heated and orthopedic dog bed for your prized furry companion, you can now carry out the purchase and start giving your dog a comfortable, well-deserved sleep.

by mr_tentacle

When humans are confronted with an aching back and sore joints, what do most of us do? We lie in bed. Further, if we have something like chronic arthritis or are just sore from work all the time, we look for beds that will make us most comfortable and this is exactly the attitude that should accompany you when you're looking for a bed for your dog.

You need to consider the comfort of your dog above all else when buying a bed, and that is best done by searching out dog bed manufacturers who pay special attention to the orthopedic needs of dogs in general, especially those of larger breeds. This means the materials are high grade and durable on the outside with memory foam and virgin fiber materials on the inside.

Not only do these materials last the longest, but they, especially the memory foam, is best for cushioning the spots that need it without wearing down too quickly. This is important for all dogs big and small, old and young; the right orthopedic dog bed can prevent aches and pains, actually helping your dog to feel better and rested. Orthopedic dog beds are also recommended by veterans across the board because of their generally excellent support system and their ability to decrease any pain your dog might be feeling, especially if your dog is a larger breed.

          ]]>

If your dog is a larger breed, orthopedic dog beds are a must; since they are bigger, there is much more stress on their joints and they are especially prone to problems. Make sure you get a large bed with memory foam as it will last far, far longer than regular fill and give your dog twice the cushioning.

If your dog is a smaller breed, orthopedic dog beds are also good because of often tender joint and muscles. If you're looking for a bed for a smaller breed, ensure that is small enough to be snug but large enough that they can roll around.

While you may be thinking that it sounds so special it must be terribly expensive, an orthopedic dog bed doesn't have to be. All it means is that it has the right materials and padding, e.g. memory foam and good filling, and that the manufacturer clearly cares about the comfort of your dog.

Keep these guidelines in mind when you're looking for a good orthopedic dog bed and you can't go wrong. The comfort of your dog is well worth taking the time to do it right and finding the bed that most suits your pup and its needs.

Question by Vegans R Hottt: Does anyone have a gel-filled orthopedic dog bed? If so, do you like it? What is the brand?
I am looking for a dog bed for my dog that has cancer and arthritis. Most memory foam is toxic and off gasses. I heard gel-filled beds are really good. Anyone have experience with these beds?

Best answer:

Answer by Riley
I am actually visiting my parents for a couple of weeks and they just got one of those beds for their dogs about a month ago. The dogs absolutely love them, they are not older dogs - one is 7 and the other is 2, but it cushions them perfectly and my dogs even loved jumping in the bed because they loved the feeling of it. Feeling it, it does seem as if it would ease joint pains of an arthritic dog. The negative part would be he may never want to have to pick himself up out of it :p

*edit*

I'm sorry, I didn't see you also asked for the brand. They got the Gelpedic, though I can't say where from but I'm sure you can find it online or possibly in a store.

Question by 12345: Orthopedic dog bed for pet with bad legs?
I have a 4yr old mix about 20lbs, he has luxtating patellas with both legs, and 1 luxtating hip, developing arthritis. he also had muscle spasms in his neck a few weeks, the vet hopes it was just from jumping weird. He is on joint supplements, which have helped him greatly
I am looking in to getting him an orthopedic dog bed since he needs a new bed anyhow, and was wondering if they really help. Looking for answer from someone with experience of these beds.

Answer by who-why-where-how
Hi, my dog had arthritis on her hips and the doctor recommended a memory foam bed, she loved it! it was soft and comfy and yet solid, she slept better and longer, make sure its thick and not thin foam, a real memory foam which probably it's a bit expensive, I paid like $ 60 but it was worth every dollar, I even lay on the bed next to her a couple of time when I was putting her to sleep and I loved it too. good luck and hugs to your pooch.

Article by Groshan Fabiola

When you have had enough of cleaning your dog's drool from your favorite sofa, or you simply cannot stand the sight of your elegant leather couch with scratch marks on it, it's time to take some action and get your dog his own bed. The advantages are numerous. Your dog gets to have his own private space where he can relax at any time of the day and not depend on your schedule. Once he learns that sleeping or lying in your bed is forbidden, you will no longer deal with the damage caused by your little chewer.

Sharing the bed with a dog, or any another pet is not recommended, especially when it comes to children, who happen to be the all time dog lovers. However, you have to make them understand that it is in the dog's best interest to have his own bed. How can you do that? You just have to point out that the dog has special needs just like they do that have to be fulfilled in order for your dog to feel loved and cared for. You have to treat him as a member of the family and think of his well-being, while sparing yourself the trouble of cleaning your own bed or sofa after your dog.

The variety that dog beds come in can be overwhelming. The basic criteria in choosing a dog bed for your pet should include size, shape, fabric, and color. You can choose from small, large or medium-size dog beds, round, rectangular or donut dog beds, wooden dog beds, outdoor dog beds, heated dog beds, personalized dog beds, and many more. However, purpose represents an important criterion for some dog owners shopping for beds for their pets. Some old dogs suffering from hip or joint pain or arthritis are in need of special beds and orthopedic dog beds have been designed especially for them. Special beds have also been created for the dogs that love to chew and give their owners a hard time by ruining things around the house if you have one of these dogs the chew-proof Kuranda dog beds are the choice for you.

Orthopedic dog beds are designed for dogs with joint or bone problems, as well as for those that are young but prone to have these types of problems. Some dog breeds make them prone to such problems, especially from a certain age on. If your home does not have the appropriate temperature all around the year and your dog likes to lie on the floor a lot, this habit of his may lead to such health problems, which can so easily be prevented with orthopedic dog beds. Such beds should not be an option, but a must if your dog is already showing signs of joint or bone pain, or a similar condition.

Orthopedic dog beds are suitable for young healthy dogs as well, in order to keep their joints healthy and try to prevent a serious condition. Orthopedic dog beds come in many sizes and shapes with the overall common factor being the orthopedic grade supportive foam, coil springs, memory foam and sturdy design that give the added support of your aging four legged friend.

Other dog owners are faced with a serious and disturbing problem of their dogs chewing everything around the house, including kitchen units, dog flaps, floor coverings, and even some so-called indestructible fabrics. The solution for these people is the Kuranda dog beds.

Kuranda dog beds sport a patented design backed by a warranty to guarantee against the most persistent chewers! Their appeal to many dog owners is the inability for their dog to get at the sturdy fabric to chew and tear the bed. Kuranda dog beds are used at kennels and veterinary offices around the USA for the practicality of their design. They come in many sizes, are easily cleaned and stand up to the heaviest of breeds. You have a choice of aluminum or poly resin frames with several types of fabrics. Kuranda dog beds are easy to clean, durable and ideal for both indoor and outdoor use.

Just like with us humans and the type of beds we prefer, what makes a comfortable bed for your dog can depend on his age, health, and personality. Dog beds provide warmth, comfort and a safe haven for your pet. If you have an older dog, especially one with arthritis or hip dysplasia, you may want to consider getting him an orthopedic dog bed.

What Are Orthopedic Dog BedsOrthopedic dog beds are built to protect and provide added comfort for aged dogs, those with arthritic joints, and dogs that are overweight. They provide maximum support and are typically constructed with medical-grade orthopedic egg crate foam cores and sometimes box-springs. There are even gel-foam beds that conform to your dog's shape.

Typically a foam orthopedic dog bed or pad will have a foam core of at least four inches to as much as seven inches to help reduce stress on pressure points like hips. Depending on your dog's age and health he may like or need a bed on the thicker end of the range. A good quality bed will have high density "memory foam" that bounces back to shape as soon as your dog leaves it.

If you have an older dog, it is especially important that he has a comfortable bed. It is not good for dogs in general, especially older ones and larger ones, to lie on hard surfaces because they can develop calluses or sores in bony areas such as the elbow. If your dog has arthritis, it is even more important to protect and cushion his bones and joints and help insulate him from the floor.

Styles of Orthopedic Dog BedsYou can find orthopedic dog beds in a variety of styles from traditional dog beds to nests with orthopedic foam bases and polyfil pillow toppers, bolster beds with firm orthopedic foam mattresses, and mats with orthopedic foam cores. The key point is that the bed offers extra comfort and support to your pet.

How to Measure Your Dog for a BedMost dog bed manufacturers recommend that you measure your dog lying down from nose to his hind end (in other words the area that is covered when your dog is lying down) and add 12 inches. This will ensure that he has room to move and get comfortable.

Whether you choose a traditional, bolster or nest style, an orthopedic dog bed will offer your pet extra cushioning for sore joints. Your dog will be more comfortable and will likely get better rest, something we can all appreciate.

Dog owners always like their dog and their environment look great and with this end they often try to procure for their favorite dogs many luxurious items. Such items are usually meant for comfort of the dog while putting up an excellent front for the viewers. However, some of the furniture is also a combination of luxury and health benefits.

Dog Pedic Pet Beds; a Combination of Health and BeautyFor instance; the luxury dog beds on sale for orthopedic purposes, called dog pedic beds in brief is one such pet beds that not only look great but also prevent chances of the dog meeting with orthopedic problems.

Multiple Sizes and TypesOrthopedic luxury pet beds for dogs come in various types and sizes befitting the type and size of the dog. For big size dogs the beds could be as large as 46" x 27" in terms of length and width. Such beds are usually the size of grown up children or dwarf men and women. Medium size and it is the most widely used beds would come in the size of 37" x 24" in terms of length and breadth. Small pet beds will be usually in the size of 26" x 19" befitting the size of tiny dogs. Rarely a bed could be smaller than that and similarly also very few beds are there that are larger than the one specified for big dogs.

Size is Not The Lone FactorOf course size is not the lone factor in determination of the size and type of beds used by the pet. Weight and nature of the dog are two other vital components having much more bearing on the type of beds used. Small dog beds are usually meant for weight of 35 pounds or less but it might so happen that a dog is smaller in size though heavier in weight. Similar things can happen to beds for medium and large sized dogs. Sometimes the weight could be much more than expected and standard weight of the dogs.

Also the nature of dog is important. Beds cannot be same for dogs habituate in sprawling out while sleeping and those accustomed to sleeping in a curly way.

Question by Angela: Why Do Sponge Dog Beds Drive Dogs Crazy?
Why Do Sponge Dog Beds Drive Dogs Crazy?
And WHY do they keep putting sponge in most dog beds?
Every breed of dog I have ever had wants to tear up, and sometimes eat the sponge in her or his dog bed? Is it the petroleum base used for sponge?
I have to use a wool blanket or an outdoor dog bed with natural chips inside to have it last more than a week.

Best answer:

Answer by R H
My dogs go nuts on them too! I can't keep them from destroying them and I don't understand why. So I quit buying them and now I buy soft towels. I haven't had them tare those up yet.

Orthopedic Memory Foam Dog Beds - Something Every Dog Owner Needs

			By: Wesley Hare

With the current economic problems and overall issues that people deal with on a daily basis we as humans are looking for coping mechanisms. Many use drugs and alcohol, while some use food, or T.V, or simply a couch, but many of us use animals. Dogs are there no matter what to provide a very comfortable fun atmosphere for anybody. Now it's time to give back to your dog. If you have ever considered to invest into orthopedic memory foam dog beds you have come to the right place. Orthopedic memory foam dog beds have made a difference in many animals lives, and have increased the health of them all.

Many dogs suffer from old age arthritis and have problems sleeping. This can cause a very cranky or mean dog, and sometimes will even cause a dog to become lazy. Just as humans, dogs have many handicaps. Whether an already known injury, surgery, or skeletal problem, no dog likes to sleep on a uncomfortable surface. Orthopedic memory foam dog beds will increase the health of your dog and can help cope with many handicaps.

These beds are designed to provide the dog with comfortability and support where your dog needs it most. The creation of this memory foam mattress has changed the way beds are made, and has created a product that nobody seems to compare against. You will not find another bed like orthopedic memory foam dog beds. Many orthopedic beds also provide a great deal of space for your animal to sleep in. This will help keep it's body in shape, and will also help your dog have a very nice sleep.

Put it in terms of your liking. Everybody enjoys a comfortable bed. A bed that they can come home to after a long day and relax in while watching T.V or eating, or simply just for sleep. After a long walk, dogs seem to always crash on their nearest bed, and orthopedic memory foam dog beds are the best placed to crash. The space with a orthopedic bed will also help your chow down it's bone. Before I invested into a orthopedic memory foam bed I would find toys and dog bones all over the house. I believe this was because my dog didn't enjoy his current bed and it simply wasn't big enough to play in. Now, my dog has no problem eating a bone for over two hours in the orthopedic foam bed.

Dogs are very important to the human race. They are your friends when you need it most, and always have your back. Now is the time to return the favor, and protect their back. You will bring a great deal of joy to your dogs life with the amazing experience of orthopedic memory foam dog beds. For more information visit Best dog Beds

Article by Nicole Roberts

Orthopedic dog beds are designed to offer your dog better body support than a traditional dog bed, which makes them an excellent choice for dogs heading into their senior years. Problems such as arthritis, joint pain, sore and stiff muscles and hip dysplasia become more common for senior dogs and make it more difficult for them to find a comfortable place rest and sleep.

Since orthopedic dog beds are designed to lie closer to the floor, they are easier for dogs to climb in and out of. Many of these beds also come with a high quality Ortho foam core that molds and contours to a dog's body and that also provide relief for painful pressure points resulting in a deeper more comfortable night's sleep. Also, foam orthopedic beds help keep your dog warmer during the winter months and cooler in the summer.

Senior dogs are not the only ones who would benefit from using an orthopedic dog bed. Dogs that are utilized for herding purposes or who exercise and jog with their owners on a regularly find relief from the strain they place on their muscles and joints by having a firm, comfortable, specially designed bed to retire to when their day is done. Thinner breeds such as Greyhounds have less chance of developing sores and calluses when they have an orthopedic bed to lie on rather than a thin bed or a hard floor.

Dog owners can help extend their dog's health and quality of life by having them use an orthopedic bed throughout their lives, starting when they are puppies. The support these beds offer help prevent premature muscle and joint problems from setting in and help keep dogs active and in good shape even as they begin to age.

Orthopedic dog beds can also offer superior comfort to dogs recovering from a surgical procedure or from an injury. Consult with your pet's veterinarian to find out which type of orthopedic bed would best benefit your convalescing dog.

When shopping for an orthopedic dog bed choose one that is large enough for your dog to completely stretch out on and make sure the bed you purchase will adequately support your dog's weight. If the bed is to be placed inside the home take care to find a resting spot for your dog that is free from drafts or if your dog has a favorite sleeping spot already picked out be sure to place his or her bed there. If your dog spends times being crated, make sure their orthopedic bed fits comfortably in their crate or kennel.

Heated orthopedic dog beds are also an option if your dog finds comfort in being extra warm and snug. Many come equipped with a chew resistant cord that can be plugged into any outlet. Most heated orthopedic dog beds are designed for indoor use but there are beds on the market that are designed specifically for outdoor dogs.

Purchasing an orthopedic dog bed can one of the most considerate things you do for your loyal canine companion. Sure, they will sniff around their new sleeping quarters in an investigative, almost suspicious, manner but be reassured that your doggie will be enjoying and benefiting from their new gift in no time.
